श्रीविश्वरूप उवाच

ॐ नमो नारायणायेति विपर्ययमथापि वा ॥६॥

Vishvarupa said:
In a moment of danger, one should wash one's hands and feet and perform achamana [повторив мантру ом апавитрах павитро ва сарвавастхам гато 'пи ва йах смарет пундарикакшам са бахйабхйантарах шучих* шри-вишну шри вишну шри вишну]. Then one should touch kusha grass and, sitting facing north, remain silent for some time. Having completed the purification, one should first recite the eight-syllable mantra, placing its syllables on the eight parts of the body, and then the twelve-syllable mantra, placing its syllables on the fingers. Now listen to how to put on the armor of the Narayana mantra. While reciting the eight-syllable mantra [ом намо нарайанайа], one should touch the eight parts of the body in succession: the feet, knees, thighs, abdomen, heart, chest, mouth, and head. After this, one should recite the same mantra in reverse, beginning with the final syllable [йа], and touch the same parts of the body in reverse order. [Эти два ритуала называются утпатти-ньяса и самхара-ньяса].

An important verse, since it says what needs to be done (where to begin). You do not have to do this, but it is not excluded.

Therefore, it is useful to read a word-for-word translation of the verse:

śrī-viśvarūpa uvāca
dhautāṅghri-pāṇir ācamya sapavitra udaṅ-mukhaḥ
kṛta-svāṅga-kara-nyāso mantrābhyāṃ vāg-yataḥ śuciḥ

nārāyaṇa-paraṃ varma sannahyed bhaya āgate
pādayor jānunor ūrvor udare hṛdy athorasi

mukhe śirasy anupūrvyād oṃkārādīni vinyaset
oṃ namo nārāyaṇāyeti viparyayam athāpi vā

śrī-viśvarūpaḥ uvāca — Shri Vishvarupa said; dhauta — thoroughly washed; aṅghri — feet; pāṇiḥ — hands; ācamya — having performed achamana (taking three small sips of water after reciting a certain mantra); sa-pavitraḥ — one who has rings made of kusha grass on the ring fingers of both hands (or one who has touched this grass); udak-mukhaḥ — (sitting) facing north; kṛta — done by him; sva-aṅga-kara-nyāsaḥ — the mental placement on the eight parts of the body, the twelve parts of the hands, and so on; mantrābhyām — with two mantras (oṃ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya and oṃ namo nārāyaṇāya); vāk-yataḥ — one who has restrained speech; śuciḥ — purified; nārāyaṇa-param — entirely dedicated to Lord Narayana; varma — armor; sannahyēt — let him put on; bhaye — when danger; āgate — has come; pādayoḥ — on the feet; jānunoḥ — on the knees; ūrvoḥ — on the thighs; udare — on the abdomen; hṛdi — on the heart; atha — then; urasi — on the chest; mukhe — on the mouth; śirasi — on the head; anupūrvyāt — successively; oṃkāra-ādīni — beginning with oṃkāra; vinyaset — let him place; oṃ — the syllable oṃ (praṇava); namaḥ — obeisance; nārāyaṇāya — to Narayana (the Supreme Personality of Godhead); iti — thus; viparyayam — in reverse order; atha api — likewise; vā — or.

An even more detailed explanation is given below.
It was provided by Sanjaya Rath.

S.B.Sanskrit transliterationExplanation
Text 4shri-vishvarupa uvacha
dhautanghri-panir achamya
sapavitra udan-mukhah
krita-svanga-kara-nyasa
somantabhyam vag-yatah shuchih
Step 1 (Ablution): One should wash the hands and feet, that is, become clean. There are various other additions to this procedure, which can be found in the Srimad Bhagavatam.
Step 2 (Achamanyam): This procedure involves wearing two rings made of Kusha grass on the ring fingers of each hand. After taking a little water into the cupped right palm, recite the following mantra: om apavitrah pavitro va sarvavastham gato pi vayah smaret pundarikaksham sa bahyabhyantarah shuchih
After that, drink the water three times, reciting “Sri Vishnu Sri Vishnu Sri Vishnu”.
Step 3: (Asana) Taking a blade of Kusha grass, purify Asana 7 and sit on it silently and with a peaceful mind, facing north.

udare hridy athorasi
mukhe shirasy anupurvyad
om karadini vinyaset
om namo narayanayeti

Step 4: (Srishti Nyasa) This process protects the physical body, which consists of several vital energy centers that ensure its existence on this material plane, by controlling the process of creation and disintegration of the body's cells. The Ashtakshari (eight-syllable) mantra ‘OM NAMO NARAYANAYA’ is used for this purpose. These eight phonemes are ‘OM’, ‘NA’, ‘MO’, ‘NA’, ‘RA’, ‘YA’, ‘NA’, and ‘YA’, and the eight vital centers are: (1) the two feet, (2) the knees, (3) the thighs, (4) the abdomen, (5) the heart, (6) the chest, (7) the mouth, and (8) the head.
Step 4A: (Utpatti-Nyasa) This is the process of creation, and the Mantra is used to invigorate and protect the process by which cells are continually created in the body, providing Narayana's armor at the vital centers. The process involves reciting each of these phonemes with the OM prefix eight times and the NAMAH suffix, forming independent mantras for this purpose.
28) Touch both feet and recite the first mantra ‘Om AUM Padayoh (9) Namah’.
29) Touch both knees and recite the second mantra ‘Om Nam Janunoh (10) Namah’;
30) Touch the thighs and recite ‘Om Mam Urvoh (11) Namah’;
31) Place your palms on the abdomen and recite ‘Om Nam Udare (12) Namah’;
32) Place your palms on the heart and recite ‘Om Ram Hridayayi (13) Namah’;
33) Place your palms on the chest and recite ‘Om Yam Urase (14) Namah’;
34) Touch the mouth and recite ‘Om Nam Mukhaye (15) Namah’ and
35) Touch your head and say ‘Om Yam Shirase (16) Namah’.
Step 4B: (Samhara-Nyasa) This is the process of disintegration, and the Ashtakshari Mantra is used to strengthen the process by which old, diseased, and weak cells are continually destroyed and cleansed/eliminated from the body, providing Narayana's armor at the vital centers. The process is exactly the same as in Step 4A, except that the touching of the body parts and the mantras proceed in reverse order, as follows:
36) Touch your head and say ‘Om Yam Shirase Namah’.
37) Touch the mouth and recite ‘Om Nam Mukhaye Namah’ and
38) Place your palms on the chest and recite ‘Om Yam Urase Namah’;
39) Place your palms on the heart and recite ‘Om Ram Hridayayi Namah’;
40) Place your palms on the abdomen and recite ‘Om Nam Udare Namah’;
41) Touch the thighs and recite ‘Om Mam Urvoh Namah’;
42) Touch both knees and recite the second mantra ‘Om Nam Janunoh Namah’;
43) Touch both feet and recite the first mantra ‘Om AUM Padayoh Namah’.
Through these two processes, Utpatti and Samhara Nyasa, the body is cleansed of all diseases caused by diseased cells, restoring the cells themselves.
Text 7kara-nyasam tatah kuryad
dvadashakshara-vidyaya
pranavadi-ya-karant

Step 5 (Kara Nyasa): ‘Kara’ means hands, and Kara Nyasa is the process of protecting our mind (through the palms and fingers of the hands) from negative influences so that our actions are always perfect and directed toward the good. This process uses the placement of the individual phonemes of the Dvadakshari (twelve-syllable) Mantra on the fingertips, thumb, and palm according to the standard Puja ceremony 17. It is a well-known fact in palmistry that the 28 Nakshatras are located on the fingers and their joints, and these mantras and gemstones placed on these fingers influence one Nakshatra or another. These twelve phonemes are OM, NA, MO, BHA, GA, VA, TE, VA, SU, DE, VA, YA. Perform this as follows:
44) Touch the right thumb with the right index finger and say ‘Om AUM Angustha-bhyam 18 Namah’.
45) Touch the right index finger with the right thumb and say ‘Om Nam Tarjani-bhyam 19 Namah’.
46) Touch the right middle finger with the right thumb and say ‘Om Mam Madhyama-bhyam 20 Namah’.
47) Touch the right ring finger with the right thumb and say ‘Om Bham Anamika 21-bhyam Namah’.
48) Touch the right little finger with the right thumb and say ‘Om Gam Kanishthika 22-bhyam Namah’.
49) Touch the right palm with the right index finger and say ‘Om Vam Kara-tala-kara-prishtha-bhyam 23 Namah’.
50) Touch the left palm with the left index finger and say ‘Om Tem Kara-tala-kara-prishtha-bhyam 24 Namah’.
51) Touch the left little finger with the left thumb and say ‘Om Vam Kanishthika-bhyam Namah’.
52) Touch the left ring finger with the left thumb and say ‘Om Sum Anamika-bhyam Namah’.
53) Touch the left middle finger with the left thumb and say ‘Om Dem Madhyama-bhyam Namah’.
54) Touch the left index finger with the left thumb and say ‘Om Vam Tarjani-bhyam Namah’.
55) Touch the right thumb with the right index finger and say ‘Om Yam Angustha-bhyam Namah’.
The counting order begins with Angusthana (the thumb) and proceeds to the palm, as described here for the right hand; for the left hand, however, I used the reverse order as advised by Srila Prabhupada 25. This advice from Srila Prabhupada is based on Utpatti and Samhara Nyasa, in which the fingers of the right hand are used for creation and those of the left hand for destruction. This can also be understood from the example that the right hand is used for eating and the left hand for cleansing the body after using the toilet; rings and gemstones on the right hand participate in the process of creation and strengthen the influence in the chart, while rings and gemstones on the left hand make the planets associated with them weaker. Furthermore, following the advice of His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada 26, I use the Pranava (OM) prefix with each mantra. This advice is very sensible, since the Pranava prefix makes any mantra suitable for use by everyone (according to the canons of Mantra Shastra 27).
Text 8-10nyased dhridaya omkaram
vi-karam anu murdhani
sha-karam tu bhruvor madhye

na-karam sarva-sandhishu
ma-karam astram uddishya
mantra-murtir bhaved budhah
savisargam phad-antam tat
sarva-dikshu vinirdishet
om vishnave nama iti
Step 6 (Anga-Nyasa): This is the process of protecting oneself from all directions 28. This process uses the placement of the individual phonemes of the mantra OM VISHNAVE NAMAH on vital body parts associated with spirituality, according to the standard Puja procedure.
56) Touch the heart and say ‘Om Hridayayi Namah’;
57) Touch the crown of the head and say ‘Vim Shirase Svaha’;
58) Touch the space between the eyebrows and say ‘Sam Bhru-madhye Svaha’;
59) Touch the (shikhi) topknot and say ‘Nama Shikhayayi Vashat’;
60) Touch the third eye on the forehead and say ‘Vem Netratrayaya Vaushat’;
61) Concentrate on all parts of the body and say ‘Nam Kavachaya Hum’;
62) Mentally turn toward all directions of the compass clockwise, beginning with North, northeast, and so on, saying in all directions ‘Mah astraya Phat’.
Text 11atmanam paramam dhyayed
dhyeyam shat-shaktibhir yutam
vidya-tejas-tapo-murtim
imam mantram udaharet
Step 7 (Japa and Meditation): Chant the mantra ‘OM VISHNAVE NAMAH’, meditating on the eternal form of Bhagavan Sri Vishnu and realizing the qualitative identity of the individual soul (one’s “self”) with Vishnu (Paramatma). This bestows the six forms of Shakti, endowed with all knowledge, power, and austerity.
Text 12om harir vidadhyan mama sarva-raksham
nyastanghri-padmah patagra-prishte
darari-charmasi-gadeshu-chapa-
pashan dadhano ‘shta-guno ‘shta-bahuh
Step 8: (Narayana Kavacha): The Narayana Kavacha Stotra begins with this verse. From this stotra we learn about the power of Lord Hari 29, who rides Garuda (the eagle) and holds weapons in His eight hands.

Explanations to the table above:

5 Indra—the king of the Suras, the forces of light.
6 Indra, having become proud of possessing the treasures of all three worlds, violated the law of Vedic etiquette.
7 Asana is usually a simple square mat used for prayer. It also implies the posture in which you will sit on this mat. Asanas are described in Hatha-yoga; Padmasana is the best for sattvic mantras such as Narayana Kavacha.
8 The prefix OM is also known as Pranava and is placed before each of the phonemes in the following verse (Text 7).
9 Pada—feet
10 Janunoh—knees
11 Urvoh—thighs
12 Udara—abdomen
13 Hridaya—heart
14 Urasi—on the chest
15 Mukha—mouth
16 Shirase—head
17 Hindu ritual of worship.
18 Om is a phoneme; Angushtha refers to the thumb, and Namah means obeisance to the Supreme or a greeting. Thus, OM ANGUSHTHA-BHYAM NAMAH invokes the spiritual energy in the sound OM so that it may be present in the thumb.
19 Tarjanya refers to the index finger.
20 Madhyama—the middle finger.
21 Anamika—the ring finger
22 Kanishthika refers to the little finger.
23 Kara-tala refers to the palms of the hands, while Kara-prishtha is the back, reverse, or rear side of the kara-tala.
24 Kara-tala refers to the palms of the hands, while Kara-prishtha is the back, reverse, or rear side of the kara-tala.
25 Ś.B. Canto 6, Chapter 8, Text 7: “...beginning with the index finger of the right hand and ending with the index finger of the left. The remaining four syllables should be placed on the joints of the thumbs.”
26 Ś.B. Canto 6, Chapter 8, Text 7: “Its syllables are preceded by the sound om and placed on the fingertips...”
27 ‘Mantra Shastra’ from Remedies in Vedic Astrology. Sanjaya Rath.
28 Ś.B. Text 10: “Thus, there will be protection from all directions by an armor made of mantra.” Śrīla Prabhupāda.
29 The eight-armed form of Lord Hari is worshiped in Hrishikesh with the Ashtakshari Mantra “KLIM HRISHIKESHAYA NAMAH”.

Before moving on to the next verse of Absolute Protection, I should mention that there will be a video demonstrating exactly how to establish the Protection. Don’t miss it!
And don’t worry if you feel that something is not yet clear.

करन्यासं ततः कुर्याद् द्वादशाक्षरविद्यया ।
प्रणवादियकारान्तमङ्गुल्यङ्गुष्ठपर्वसु ॥७॥

Then one should recite the twelve-syllable mantra [ом намо бхагавате васудевайа]. Preceding each syllable with the omkara, place eight syllables on the fingertips, beginning with the index finger of the right hand and ending with the index finger of the left. The remaining four syllables should be placed on the phalanges of the thumbs.

Below is
a beautiful hypnotic, relaxing meditation on the mantra om namo bhagavate vasudevaya
It is a very beautiful, high-quality meditation. You are unlikely to have heard anything like it before.

So, today’s meditation (and your assignment) is to listen to it and practice the meditation. Watch the video:

Let’s continue.
I would like to remind you once again that what we are studying here and now is several hundred thousand years old.
Even ancient Egypt, with its “eternal” pyramids and unsolved mysteries, is just a small child compared to This.

After this, you should repeat the six-syllable mantra [ом вишнаве намах]. The syllable om should be placed on the heart, vi on the crown of the head, sha between the eyebrows, na on the shikha (the tuft of hair at the back of the head), and ve on the bridge of the nose. The next syllable—na—should be placed on all the joints of the body, after which you should concentrate on the syllable ma, thinking of it as your weapon. Having thus become a perfect embodiment of this mantra, you should add the visarga h to the final syllable ma and recite: maha astraya phat, addressing all directions, beginning with the east. In this way, you will be reliably protected on all sides by the armor of the Narayana mantra.

Do not forget that the procedure for “putting on” this protection over all your energetic bodies is written in the table—HERE:

Today’s assignment is to listen to these mantras:

Having finished repeating the mantras, one should immerse oneself in contemplation of one’s qualitative unity with the Supreme Lord—the master of the six opulences and the supreme object of meditation—and recite the “Narayana-kavacha,” a prayer for protection addressed to Lord Narayana. Here is this prayer.

---- 🌸 ----

In this intensive course, we have now reached another very important mantra—one that I will already talk about tomorrow.
I will also give you its audio file, which you will be able to listen to.

In other words, you already understand that this ancient text, which we are studying in detail in this intensive course, contains many of the most important mantras that protect us from Evil, help us defeat Evil, and even prevent us from ever encountering it. They make our lives better.

This mantra is not only beautifully performed, but listening to it is like meditation. It calms you and gives you strength.
Tomorrow I will provide its file and explain how it should be listened to. Don’t miss this important part of the intensive course!
