The Slavic Puja is coming soon: Announcement - Slavic Puja on Veles Day. February 24
And there will be an Alatyr there.

Double Pyramid: here.

You can find a circle like this in some kind of crafts store, for example.
I just went into a store, and they had different diameters.
At some point I’ll write a simpler version explaining how to make an Alatyr, for example out of cardboard, using scissors.
But for now, this is the more proper version. And a somewhat more complicated one.

So, a circle from the store. I drew lines on it.

Draw two crosses at 90 degrees. This produces 8 rays.

I didn’t have a special angle ruler, so I drew the angles using an A4 sheet of paper.
First, the first cross at 90 degrees. Then a cross rotated by 45 degrees. To do this, I folded the 90-degree side of the sheet in half, producing a 45-degree angle. It wasn’t for nothing that I studied to become a mechanical engineer for five years :)

Then I connected all the rays:

Then I connected the intersections:

1676170953032.jpg

Then I cut out the Alatyr’s rays and made grooves with a file, simply scraping the grooves along a ruler:

To give you an idea of what it should look like, approximately this:

Of course, that’s not all yet.

It’s only a blank.

You will see the conclusion either here in this thread, at the Puja, or in my Ashram.

And by the way, yes, I decided against buying a ready-made version of the so-called Alatyr. Although there aren’t many such offers online, they do exist.
And it looks quite beautiful.
But I immediately realized that those versions were more like a kind of “toy” than a functioning ancient tool.

By the way, you can see how I made the Altar (also entirely by hand from wood) in my Ashram — here. Even now, Ashram residents can see the darshan of my deity, as well as Slavic deities, in this Altar. I post photos of the darshans in the Ashram from time to time.

Interesting words emerge: Ashram, Altar, Alatyr.

Continuation:

Today you saw photos of my Puja. And there you already saw the completed Alatyr.

The Alatyr stone itself has 8 rays. You saw it in the photo above.

In my design, I decided to make a base for the Alatyr in the form of a pyramidal star.

In the photo above, you saw how I made the actual “Alatyr stone” from a circle.

I made the base from an ordinary wooden sheet, which I also bought in the same place as the wooden circle: at one of the craft stores. In Orel, it is called Leonardo. Apparently, it was named after that same Leonardo who was da Vinci.

So:

Here, too, I used an A4 sheet to obtain a 45-degree angle. Since the sheet has 90 degrees, I simply divided it in half.

Next, simply measure an equal distance from the vertex using a ruler. This gives you two triangles.

As you can see, the angles are the same as those in the Alatyr.

After that, I did not photograph the entire process. I will explain it in words.

IMG_20230223_123915.jpg

You can already see the pyramid.

How did two triangles turn into a pyramid?

Because I made a slit halfway through one triangle, and a slit from the opposite side in the second one. The two triangles fitted into each other.

I used nothing but wood—no glue or nails.

And in the photo you can already see the third part of the structure—one of the most perfect forms in the world: the egg.

As you know, “In the beginning there was the Alatyr; from it came the egg, and from it came Rod...”

The Alatyr is something like the Mother of God.

Yes, the egg was also sold as a blank, apparently for painting. So everything was already available. If you want to repeat this, everything you need is there. Just do not be lazy—make it.

I drilled a hole in the egg. The wood is soft, and you do not even need a drill; it is so easy to hollow out.

At the apex of the pyramid, I made a recess for the Alatyr stone itself and the egg.

And so I ended up with three parts that fit together—and quite firmly.

As I already said, I used only natural materials.

And I decided to paint it with natural paint as well.

I happened to have some sindoor. I had acquired it for Shaivite purposes...

Sindoor — Wikipedia

I used it to paint the Alatyr:

The process is exactly the same as with tilak.
Your Yoga. Tilak. Spiritual Marks.

And in the end, you can decide for yourself what to do and what to coat it with. After all, wood needs to be protected somehow.

At the Ashram, I gave a recipe for natural varnish. In short, you need to heat beeswax, oil, and resin. You can use different kinds of oil as well. Apparently, cedar oil would be the best.

You will get a varnish that can be used for painting. It is completely harmless—more than that, it is edible.

You can take the simple route and just soak the wood in oil. That is also good protection against moisture.

How I am making a Jiva idol for the upcoming Puja right now

I deliberately chose the simplest option so that you could repeat it yourself if you wished.

At a craft store, I bought a rolling-pin blank.
It is specifically a blank; blanks are sold unfinished so that you can draw or otherwise work on them yourself.

I carefully marked the area to be sawn off with a pencil.

IMG_20230813_212333.jpg

I carefully sawed off the rolling pin:

IMG_20230813_214335.jpg

First, I roughly whittled down the top:

IMG_20230813_230026.jpg

Then I smoothed it thoroughly with sandpaper.

And I began drawing, using an ordinary pencil.

I drew with the wood grain in mind.

Especially where the hair is, you can see that I took the tree’s ring-shaped structures into account.

What’s next?

Next, I will burn the lines with a wood-burning tool.

And of course, I will share the final photographs with you.

But at the Puja.
