For a long time, I thought that genuine sacred places could only be found in India or Tibet, or in some other distant, mysterious countries. But quite recently I suddenly discovered that there are also many such places here in Russia—places where saints lived and where various miracles have taken place and continue to take place...
I started searching online and visiting some of these places. I invite anyone interested to explore this topic together. Which holy sites do you know of or have visited, and what experiences have you had there?
I think the best-known holy site in Russia is Sergiev Posad.
When I started looking for information, I did not expect that getting to such a wonderful, majestic place would be so easy! It turns out that you can get there directly from Moscow by commuter train or bus in just a couple of hours.
As soon as I learned this, I visited Sergiev Posad on my next trip to Moscow.
Oh, how beautiful it is there, and how wonderful the energy feels! The experience was truly uplifting.
I took a guided tour, which can be booked right there at a special desk. As I understood it, all the guides are deeply religious people themselves. Thanks to the tour, I not only enjoyed the beauty of the place but also learned many interesting things about it, and was deeply moved by the account of the life of Saint Sergius. I was especially struck by the tradition that the Mother of God herself appeared to Sergius here and blessed the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius!
I was also very happy that the relics of Sergius are kept in the Lavra and that it is possible to touch them!
In general, the Soul rests in this place, and I really did not want to leave. After spending several hours there, I felt a sharp contrast when I departed—how pure and radiant the feelings were there, and how much noise, bustle, and impurity surrounded me far from that place, in ordinary urban settings.
I also brought back some gifts: consecrated oil, a small icon containing a particle of Sergius’s relics, candles, and tea. And, of course, I collected some holy water. Thanks to these things, even after my visit I can continue praying and remaining connected with the blessings of the great Saint.
