Why are our thoughts and emotions so important, and why must we constantly strive to purify them? Bhagawan explains with love, drawing our attention to an interesting fact in the Bhagavatam.
The difference between a human being and a demon is determined solely by their qualities. Demons do not have any unusual physical features, as they are depicted in films and books. They, too, are human beings. It is only a person’s own qualities that turn them into a demon. The Bhagavatam contains a wonderful example. Krishna Himself was the Lord. His parents, Devaki and Vasudeva, were true human beings. Devaki’s brother, Kamsa, was a demon. Thus, all three categories—divine, human, and demonic—can exist even within one family! Kamsa was a demon because of his anger and cruelty. Devaki and Vasudeva were human because of their kindness and compassion. Possessing divine qualities that surpassed all other characteristics, Krishna was God.
Chapter 8, Summer Showers 1995
