I was asked to continue this topic — Who Are Demons?
I shall continue.
First, let us sort out the words.
And our words are ancient.
Unfortunately, they have become distorted in our time.
I’ll begin with the word ASURA.
An asura is Power.
Simply Power.
A fierce, wild Energy. Primordial, subject to no one.
It is God Himself.
I don’t think it would occur to you to call God a demon?
In the ancient versions of the Vedas, we learn that Varuna is an asura, Shiva is an asura, Surya is an asura...
So as not to make unsupported claims, read the Sources yourselves:
It is like fire. The first thing that arises in people’s minds when they hear the word “fire” is fear and negativity.
But it is simply Power.
And it is often feared.
So. An asura is Power. They are not Demons.
Moreover, the original Asura is God.
That is, as you can see, things are somehow rather complicated with demons so far...
It is simpler with Devas.
Devas are beings who recognize God’s laws.
Moreover, Devas can also be Asuras at the same time.
That is, great Power guided by God’s laws. Controlled.
These are Devas.
If we reason simply and logically, then Asuras not guided by God’s laws, uncontrolled ones, are Demons.
Both are Asuras.
For example, a wild elephant trampling people and demolishing everything in its path is a Demon.
The same elephant, obedient and performing work for the benefit of the world around it, is a Deva.
Both states exist in Nature.
A well-known example is the churning of the divine ocean to obtain Amrita, the nectar of immortality.
Two forces were needed: Gods and Demons.
From one side and the other.
But using the Demons’ desires, God created circumstances in which they deceived themselves, so the nectar went only to the Gods.
Since then, Devas have lived forever. Demons, however, have had to perform various yogic practices, austerities, mantras, pujas... to obtain immortality. That is, they obtain it indirectly.
Thus, Devas show us how anything can be obtained simply by following Dharma and submitting to the Higher Power, God. Demons show us that one can live as one wishes, disregard God and Dharma, and still obtain the same thing—but at the price of difficult practices.
Both Powers have the same thing. But Devas do nothing for it at all, since they have already drunk the amrita. Demons, on the other hand, must work for it constantly. Yet they think they are FREE.
The Universe is inhabited by a vast number of Beings, both divine and demonic in nature.
And humans are a small part of these Beings.
The ASURA sleeps within humans.
They are foolish, weak, and unhappy...
They often need to pray to someone so that they may receive help from above.
Moreover, help can come from both Gods and Demons.
And, to be honest, both are quite selfish.
That is, you shouldn’t think that Devas are all white, with wings and halos.
Sometimes Gods can be even more terrible than Demons.
And speaking of Knowledge, Demons are precisely the more knowledgeable, hardworking, and... more yogic ones.
After all, in order to have something, they must know a great deal and practice Yoga, austerities, puja, Vedic rituals...
Devas are frivolous because they do not value what they received from God without effort.
I’ll put it this way: there can be good Devas, and there can be bad ones.
The same applies to Demons.
In both cases, everything depends on the particular individual.
And even on their mood at a given moment.
But most often, it is better to deal with Devas. At the very least, they fear God.
Demons, however, are even prepared to die in battle with Him... Which is obviously foolish. But there are many such stories.
For a person, in principle, it makes no difference from whom they receive some siddhi or blessing.
If a blessing has been given, it does not matter who gave it: a Demon or a Deva.
It is like a dollar.
That is, there are yogis who perform austerities for some Asura Demon and receive a blessing.
There are other yogis who do this for some Asura Deva.
Both are good yogis.
That is, there is no need to confuse this with certain Christian traditions—worship of Satan or anything like that.
Demons and Gods are cut from the same cloth. They possess ASURA—POWER. And they can give it to you.
That is, you absolutely should not confuse the idea that praying to some Deva brings you any closer to the Absolute,
while praying to a Demon takes you farther away.
These are entirely different planes.
This is the plane of your desires and their fulfillment.
And this can be done by both Demons and Devas. Just as a dollar can do it.
A dollar will not give you the Absolute.
And neither Demons nor Devas will give it to you.
To obtain the Absolute, you must pray to the Absolute.
So do not confuse THESE things.
