Timelessness: Neville Goddard’s Teaching on the Present Moment
Many of us have dreamed at least once of turning back time to change the past, or looking ahead to see the future. We are used to thinking that life flows in a straight line: yesterday → today → tomorrow. But the mystic and philosopher
Neville Lancelot Goddard claimed that this view is merely an illusion of the human mind.

Time and distance are one and the same. And neither exists!
Time as an Illusion
According to Goddard,
only one dimension exists in reality—the eternal present. Everything we call the past, present, and future exists simultaneously, like frames on a film reel. We do not move through time. We simply shift our attention from one moment to another.
Linear time is the “projector of consciousness,” creating the illusion of movement. But the frames themselves—all events, all versions of the future and the past—already exist.
All Desires Are Already Fulfilled
Goddard’s central idea was that
everything we dream of has already happened in the eternal present.
There is no need to wait for time to “bring” us good fortune. It does not need to be summoned from the future—it exists right now. A person’s task is not to “make a desire come true,” but to recognize it as already realized.
He taught:
- not to visualize the future,
- but to remember the desired outcome as an accomplished fact.
In this way, consciousness ceases to be a prisoner of linearity and becomes the master of time.
The Past Is Not Fixed Either
If the past seems unchangeable, Goddard suggested the practice of “revision”: reliving an important moment differently.
For example, if there was a conflict with someone close to you in the past, you can “return” to it in your imagination and experience love, reconciliation, and mutual understanding. This is not fantasy, but access to a version of the past that exists in the eternal dimension.
Examples from Practice
- A man who had been “waiting” unsuccessfully for three years for his desire to be fulfilled realized that he had been living in time rather than eternity. When he began to “remember” the desire as already fulfilled, it manifested in just six weeks.
- A woman who had suffered for many years because of her husband’s drinking began to see him as sober and loving “now.” Within six months, her husband had completely changed.
- Another person rewrote the story of his relationship with his deceased father. After experiencing love and forgiveness in his imagination, he soon found letters from his father confirming precisely that feeling.
How to Apply This Knowledge
Neville suggested three practical steps:
- Eternal Thinking
Think not “this will happen someday,” but “this has already happened.”
- Flexibility of Time
Recognize that different versions of events exist: health, love, and abundance. And choose them here and now.
- Remembering EternityRemember desired states as already experienced, not as fantasies.
Living from the Eternal Present
When you understand that time is not a river but an ocean in which all moments exist simultaneously, your entire outlook on life changes.
- You stop waiting for the future.
- You stop being a victim of the past.
- You begin to live from the center of the eternal “now”.
Then your actions become more effective: you act not from anxiety and scarcity, but from a state in which the solution already exists.
Conclusion
Neville Goddard’s teaching is an invitation to move beyond linear time. It asserts:
- All your dreams already exist.
- All problems have already been solved.
- Everything you want is available right now.
We are eternal beings playing at the illusion of time. And in every moment, we have a choice: which possibility to focus on and which version of our story to live.
Time is not the master. Our consciousness is the master.
