Why is the path of devotion unique for every devotee, and how should we relate to the experiences of others on this path of love? Bhagawan lovingly explains this to us today.

The path of devotion cannot be defined and confined as such. Since it has many forms, paths, and types of experience, no one can describe it fully and precisely. Each devotee attains bliss only through their own individual experience. At best, the experiences of other devotees can provide a person with support and guidance. The limited soul is immersed in the Lord’s limitless love, and how can words describe the experience that the Upanishads call an uninterrupted stream of sweetness? It is impossible to express this state of limitless devotion in human language. From the outward signs that can be perceived by the senses, one may feel that a devotee is in a state of supreme bliss, but who can measure the depth of that joy? It has nothing whatsoever to do with the senses. Devotion must be known only through personal
experience, although great souls may illuminate your path somewhat through their examples. With their help, you may grasp something along the way, but always remember that words fail when they approach the Transcendent.

Chapter 9, Prashanti Vahini.

The primary quality of devotion is the yearning to realise unity with the Divine.

MESSAGE FROM SWAMI...

You—as body, mind, and soul—are merely a dream; what you really are is Being-Consciousness-Bliss. You are the God of this Universe. You create the entire Universe and absorb it into yourself. To attain identity with the Infinite Universe, you must leave the miserable little prison of individuality. Devotion to God (bhakti) is neither weeping nor any other negative state. It is the recognition of the One in everything we see.

The heart is what leads you to the goal. So, follow your heart. A pure heart reaches beyond the intellect and finds inspiration there. Everything we do affects us. If we do good, we will be happy, and if we do evil, we will be unhappy. Within you lies a mighty ocean of Divine nectar. Find it within yourself, feel it, and release it. This is your essence—not the body, not the mind, not the intellect. It is neither desire, nor the feeling of desire, nor even the object of desire.

You are above these outward manifestations. You must become like a smiling flower or a twinkling star. Then what in the world could make you desire anything?

With blessings and love,
Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

“Live in harmony, respect one another; do not allow the seeds of envy and hatred to take root and choke the pure stream of Love”—this prayer was taught to children by the ancient seers. Their teaching was: Unity, Divinity, Charity—in thoughts, words, and deeds, from the first breath to the last! If teachers pass this heritage on to children in its original and unchanged form, then the country’s future will undoubtedly be great. Mentors must not make excuses based on material considerations in order to evade fulfilling their spiritual task—education. They should calmly endure trials and hardships and carry out their work even more effectively, so that the Lord will reward them and society will learn to respect them even more. The world honors a person who suffers joyfully far more than one who shamefacedly indulges in pleasure! Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba🌿

PASSING THROUGH THREE ZEROS—THREE EMPTINESSes

During one of our conversations, Swami asked a foreign devotee:
“What do you want?”

She replied: “Swami, I want Your grace.”

He asked: “You want My grace? For this, you must attain three emptinesses.

First: you must have no relationships with anyone—not with your mother, father, brother, or friend. No attachments.

If, after this, you still have faith in Me, here is the second emptiness: no food, no clothing, no shelter.

Having lost all this, if you still love Me, you must be ready for the third emptiness. People will accuse you unjustly and speak badly of you.

If you continue to believe in Me, then you will be worthy of receiving My grace.
In this state, I completely give Myself to My devotees.”

How should we deal with our shortcomings and bodily needs? Today, Bhagavan lovingly shows us the way through simple examples.

Do not try to hide the shortcomings, tendencies, and habits that pull you down. Have you noticed that when people go shopping, they prefer colored clothing to white? If you ask why they choose colored fabrics, they will answer: “Dirt does not show on them.” Thus, you can see how strongly people strive to hide their shortcomings instead of eliminating them. They are so attached to physical comfort and material pleasures. In fact, the body should be treated like a wound that needs to be washed, bandaged, and treated with medicinal ointment three or four times a day. This is the true purpose of food and drink. Thirst is a disease; water is the medicine. Hunger is a disease; food is the medicine. The craving for pleasures is a disease, and detachment is its cure!
Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Just as we look after our bicycle or car, supplying it with the necessary fuel and oil, so must we care for our body, so that it can carry us along the journey of life.

What is the true essence of Islam? Today, Bhagavan lovingly explains it to us.

Group prayer generates beneficial vibrations. Islam promises the greatest flow of ecstasy at the moment of worshipping God in a vast gathering of yearning hearts. Everyone prostrates upon seeing the Masjid*. Sitting in rows on their bent knees, they bow forward until their palms and foreheads touch the ground in humble submission to the Will of God. Misunderstandings, conflicts, and hostility must not disturb the peace of this event. Islam emphasizes the presence of Unity in Diversity, the yearning for God that manifests to varying degrees in different minds. Unity is the fundamental teaching of all religions. Faith in unity is of paramount importance. Without it, no system of beliefs and practices can be a religion. God is One, and the teachings of all religions that glorify Him are founded on Love, Compassion, Tolerance, and Sympathy. The tragedy is that neither Muslims**, nor Hindus, nor followers of other religions practice these qualities in their daily lives.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba
— Divine Discourse, July 12, 1983

Only sacred love can please the Lord. This is the meaning of all religions.

What is the connection between a human being and bliss? Bhagavan lovingly explains this so that we may better understand how to strive to attain it.

Man arises from Ananda (bliss), grows in Ananda, and merges into it. This bliss is the goal of human life. Man is born in bliss. To manifest bliss is man's duty. This is the secret of the human saga. Every person makes numerous efforts to experience bliss. From infancy to old age, a person directs all their efforts toward attaining bliss. But this bliss is not found in the places where they seek it. When they themselves are an embodiment of bliss, seeking it outside is simply foolish. Does anyone in the world seek themselves outside themselves? If such a search is a sign of ignorance, then seeking bliss outside oneself is also a sign of ignorance. Water can exist without fish, but fish cannot exist outside water. A branch is part of a tree. A child is part of its mother. A branch cannot survive separately from the tree. A child cannot live without its mother. In the same way, human existence is based on the Divine. Man is a spark of God. Without God, man cannot experience bliss. — Divine Discourse, April 4, 1992.

Human life unfolds best, and one's efforts are directed most easily, when one strives to realize the principle of the Atma.

Why is it so important to remain on the path to God and think of Him regularly? Today, Bhagavan gives us a vivid reminder of this.

Most people spend the life allotted to them on abundant, harmful food and drink and indulge in alluring, captivating, yet even more harmful pursuits. What a pitiful waste of precious life! Although human beings belong to the animal kingdom, they far surpass their fellow creatures in their physical, mental, and moral constitution. They possess memory, language, consciousness, reverence, awe, wonder, and an inexplicable feeling of dissatisfaction that heralds detachment. Human beings have a magnificent opportunity to realize their identity with the Mystery manifested as the Universe. But they are so immersed in ignorance that they behave like animals, steeped in sorrow and vice. It is as though fire had forgotten its ability to burn, and water its ability to quench and moisten; so human beings have forgotten their innate attraction to their divine being, their ability to seek and uphold the Truth of the Universe of which they are a part, and their ability to learn virtue, righteousness, love, and compassion in order to move from separateness to Universality.

What achievements of their children should parents encourage? Bhagavan lovingly explains so that together we can build a bright future.

In bygone times, the people of Bharata earned name and fame by leading a virtuous and sacred life and were an example to the world. Children today follow their parents. A tree is based on its seed, and the seed determines the nature of the tree. Parents alone should be blamed for the evil actions and bad behavior of modern children. Only a few parents dare to tell their children to speak the truth, act righteously, and earn a good name. Because of such bad parents, the nation is losing its good name. It would be better if such children were never born. They bring shame upon their parents and their country. Their education and work may help them acquire power, status, and wealth, but they do not foster virtues such as compassion, kindness, and sacrifice. None of their acquisitions is permanent. However powerful a person may be, without Divine Power, he is weak.
- Divine Discourse, May 6, 1992

Great people such as Shankaracharya, Vivekananda, and Mahatma Gandhi became ideal human beings because of the example set by their parents in everyday life.

Until you rid yourself of worldly attachments, the world will seem eternal to you. Like glittering drops of mercury, desires and attachments slide across the lotus of your heart. Free your heart from this unstable, changeable substance of desires. This process—moha-kshaya, or freedom from delusion—is moksha. When attachment goes, only ananda remains. Try to transform your life in this way, and even if your progress is slow, you are on the path to Brahman.

If God is pleased with you, then the whole world will be pleased with you

If God turns away from you, then the world will also turn away from you. Therefore, you do not need to try to please this or that person.

Do not waste your life meaninglessly pursuing insignificant and petty desires. Make a sincere effort to please God. When you please God and become dear to Him, the whole world will belong to you.

A sage said: “O Lord! If I have Your Grace, then all nine planets will obey me.” To receive God's Grace, treat such opposites as pleasure and pain, happiness and sorrow, praise and blame equally. Always contemplate God's Name and become worthy of His Love. As soon as you attain God's Love, you will have nothing to fear. You will achieve everything in life. Therefore, develop an equal attitude toward everything and make efforts to receive God's Grace.

SWAMI'S TEACHINGS FOR REFLECTION – 🍁SEPTEMBER 29

Many people do not see their own mistakes or try to hide them. To justify themselves, they grumble against God. Where God is, there is no place for mistakes or shortcomings. God is like fire, and everything engulfed by fire burns without a trace. In the same way, all bad qualities burn away in God's presence. That is why Brahman is often compared to fire and given the name Agni Brahman. The deeper meaning of this name is the fire of wisdom. To attribute imperfection to such radiant and holy wisdom is to admit one's own imperfection. That is why we will be able to know the essence of Brahman only after we purify our ideas and thoughts.

Namaste! I am currently finishing K. Castaneda. There are many reviews here. I wanted to recommend the book "The Shaman's Laughter" by Vladimir Serkin. I read it in one sitting. The events are described in a very unusual way. I am still deeply impressed.

As we remember Mahatma Gandhi on his birthday, what lesson can we learn from his transformation from an ordinary child into a noble person? Bhagawan reminds us of this today.

As a child, Gandhi was full of fear. A maid named Rambha lived in his home. Gandhi told her that he was constantly afraid. Rambha replied: "Child, always repeat the name of Rama. By chanting the name of Rama, your fear will disappear." From then on, Gandhi always repeated the name of Rama. The habit of repeating the name of Rama, which began in childhood, remained with him until the end of his life. But that was not all. By adhering to the chanting of Rama's name, Gandhi-ji was able to achieve his goal—to win freedom for his country through nonviolence. Parents are primarily responsible for such a life, full of purity and virtue. Unfortunately, today, because parents themselves lack purity of character, do not possess noble qualities, and do not lead an orderly life, evil and immorality are spreading throughout the world.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba
- Divine Discourse, May 6, 1992

For children to grow into people of good character and live according to their conscience, parents must possess good character and exemplary conduct.

Question: What does grihastha mean?

🪔Swami’s answer: Living with a wife and children does not mean establishing the grihastha ashrama, as most people think. Without rejecting the duties prescribed for him according to his caste and position, a person should treat everyone with equal courtesy—both relatives and everyone else. He should know the rights of elders and the duties of younger people; he should be full of sympathy and a desire to help; he should care for those who depend on him with kindness and love; every new encounter with the world should make him wiser; he should study the shastras, be punctual in fulfilling dharma, and avoid adharma; he should protect and provide for his wife and children with a sense of responsibility; he should suppress the eight forms of egoism arising from pride in his lineage, wealth, character, beauty, youth, learning, homeland, and even achievements in asceticism.

One who recognizes the four goals—dharma, artha, kama, and moksha; who is not proud of material possessions, even though he may have them in sufficient quantity; who devotes part of the day to serving others; who does not depend on another person’s property; who trusts his wife and enjoys her trust; who understands others and has complete faith in them—that person is on the path called grihastha ashram.

What is the best path for ordinary householders seeking God while pursuing worldly and spiritual aims? Our Loving Lord reveals it to us and inspires us today.

To receive absolute protection from God, one must follow the path of complete devotion, dedicating oneself to the Lord. This cannot be achieved in any other way. The path of spiritual wisdom (jnana) is accessible to only one person in a million; it is beyond the reach of most people. Can one deny the body and the objective world, so evident to the senses, while repeating, “Not this, not this (neti, neti)”? If this is impossible, how can the “Not this, not this” argument be applied? Under present conditions, the path of wisdom is indeed very difficult. The path of selfless service is also not entirely feasible. It, too, is full of difficulties. To carry out such activity successfully with the right attitude, devotion and love are necessary. The path of yoga, or shared religious practice, is likewise filled with obstacles. Thus, the path of devotion is the smoothest, most conducive to success, and most blissful.

Chapter 9, Prashanti Vahini.

The path of devotion and self-sacrifice—bhakti-marga—is the simplest for most people. It is attained through love, for love leads quickly to the Goal.

Worry is a state of mental agitation in which the human mind is overcome by negative emotions, dwelling on the past and pondering an uncertain future. How often does a person say the words, “Don’t worry,” completely mechanically, without delving into their meaning… And how can a person free themselves from this demon that is constantly hunting them? Dr. T. Jareonsettasin from Thailand shares his understanding, received directly from Bhagavan.

In 1989, during an interview, Swami said to me: “Don’t worry. Always think of God; I am always with you. Live a happy and healthy life.” I am sure He said this to thousands of people. Look at these words and consider how often we take them for granted. “Don’t worry” is the most common phrase. We say it to calm our friends, when apologizing, as a sign of reconciliation, to justify our guilt, and so on. When we say, “Don’t worry,” is that really what we mean? Very often, we say it automatically, simply to say something. We treat Swami’s words the same way, taking them for granted. Our mind does not take the words “Don’t worry” seriously.

I made the same mistake, not realizing that these words are the highest teaching we can receive from God. “Tell me, what form does worry have?” I asked Swami, and He replied: “Worry has no form, but sincere, intense prayer to God can eliminate it.”Look at how ridiculous we are in this world; doctors and scientists spend millions of pounds researching tranquilizers.

Once, in another interview, Swami said to me, “Don’t worry about the past. The past is gone.” We worry about the past, the present, and the future—practically about everything. Worrying about the past will change nothing, just as worrying about the present and the future will not. Some people who have nothing to worry about worry without any reason. The solution to the problem of worry lies in Baba’s words: “Always think of God. I am always with you.” Someone asked Swami, “But Swami, if this is so important, why don’t we do it all the time? Why do we forget? Why don’t we always think of God, so that He may fill us with His love?” Baba smiled and said, “It is God’s Grace, because your thinking of God is God’s Grace. It is His gift. It is His blessing. It is something He gives; He gives you the chance to think of God.”

Samasta Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu—may all beings in all worlds be happy!

Why should we strive to control our mind? Today, Bhagawan lovingly explains to us the benefits of doing so.

The mind must not be allowed to wander at its own will. It must be controlled without the slightest indulgence or mercy. If possible, one should even strive to destroy it, that is, to make the mind stay away from contact with worldly objects. Why? Only then can a person realise their true nature. Realising this reality is the state known as liberation (mukti). Then all kinds of troubles and difficulties, doubts and dilemmas cease; one overcomes sorrow, delusion and anxiety and becomes established in the peace of holiness. First of all, give up all impure impulses and cultivate pure ones. Then, step by step, try to give up even those and make your mind objectless (nir-vishaya). The peace attained in this way is filled with radiance and bliss because it is founded on wisdom; it is truly an experience of Divinity, of God Himself!

- Ch. 12, Prashanti Vahini.

Keep the mind calm and clear. Do not agitate it every moment with your ceaseless inner dialogue.

- Baba

Develop good conduct. Then everything will work out well for you. Nothing will stop you. No difficulties will trouble you. It is precisely so that you may put good thoughts into practice that, during the celebration of Navaratri, the Goddesses Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati are worshipped.

Durga should not be regarded as a fierce Goddess. She is the Supreme Goddess who protects you. Lakshmi is the embodiment of all wealth. Saraswati is the Goddess of speech. Good thoughts, good words, good actions and good conduct embody the nature of these three Goddesses. One who teaches you goodness is truly an embodiment of Goddess Saraswati. One who teaches evil is truly a demon.

Goddess Durga destroys only such demons. Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati are essentially no different from you. They live in your heart. They urge you to lead the life of a human being, because you yourself are a human being.

SWAMI'S GUIDANCE DURING THE DAYS OF "NAVARATRI" - ✨🪔18 OCTOBER

“Navaratri” means nine nights. Darkness is associated with night. What is this darkness? It is the darkness of ignorance.

The purpose of celebrating Navaratri is to give you the opportunity to overcome the darkness that has enveloped you. When Devi is mentioned, it refers to the unified form of Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. Lakshmi, who is the embodiment of prosperity, symbolises the heart. The mouth represents Saraswati. The purity of actions (Kriya Shuddhi) is embodied by Durga.

To receive the Lord's grace, you must maintain purity of heart, purity of speech and purity of actions. This triple purity is described in the Vedic texts as “Tripurasundari.” Celebrate Navaratri in such a way as to dispel your inner darkness by observing the triple purity of thought, word and deed.
