Note that Murphy speaks about the importance of a state he describes as drowsiness.
We also call it the alpha-theta state -
HERE.
This state itself accounts for 50% of success.
You know that churches are built tall; in Catholic churches, you are supposed to look upward. Not downward—to repent—but precisely the opposite: UPWARD. It is when we raise our eyes upward that this contributes to the emergence of alpha waves in the brain. I spoke about this on the Your Yoga website about 15 years ago.
Something similar also happens in Smriti meditation -
HERE.
The following are quotations from Murphy's book.
Prayer in a State of Drowsiness
As soon as we enter a state of drowsiness, all our activity is reduced to a minimum. While we remain half-asleep, consciousness becomes largely suppressed. This happens because the contents of the subconscious emerge into reality immediately before sleep and just after awakening. In such a state, we are no longer dominated by the pessimism and skepticism that kill all our desires and prevent the subconscious from accepting what we are trying to impress upon it.
A young woman tried an affirmative prayer on a young man who constantly called her, demanded dates, and lay in wait for her near her workplace. She could not get rid of him. The girl said: “I release ______ to God. He is now where he should always be. I am free, and he is free. Now I release this word into the Ocean of the Eternal Soul, which is the Soul of the Almighty… The Eternal Soul is the Only Power that exists in this universe, and It will make this come true. I have decreed it, and it will come to pass. So be it.” According to her, the man disappeared, and she never saw him again.
How to Heal Through Prayer Therapy
The usual procedure is as follows:
1. Study the problem.
2. Seek an outcome or solution known only to your subconscious.
3. Calm down, relax, and remain deeply convinced that the matter is settled.
Practical Application of the Bode Method
A woman from one of our courses was involved last year in a long and bitter family dispute over an inheritance. Her husband had left all his property to her in his will, but his sons and daughters were determined to contest it. She was told in detail how to use the Bode method, and this is what she did. The woman sat in an armchair, completely relaxed, and sank into drowsiness. Then, as she had been instructed, she condensed the idea of what she needed into five words that immediately impressed themselves upon her memory: “Thy will be done.” For her, the meaning of these words was as follows: The Eternal Mind, through Its Law (the subconscious), would direct the Will of God toward a favorable conclusion of the entire matter. She repeated this procedure every evening for ten days. Each time, after sinking into drowsiness, the woman slowly and feelingly repeated to herself: “Thy will be done.” Then grace descended upon her; all her anxieties were forgotten, and she sank into a deep, healthy sleep.
On the morning of the eleventh day, the woman awoke with a sense of well-being and confidence that everything had already
been accomplished. That same day, her lawyer called and said that the opposing counsel and his clients were ready to resolve the matter amicably. An agreement was drawn up taking everyone’s interests into account, and the legal proceedings were completely terminated.
Prayer in a State of Drowsiness Can Help You Get Rid of Harmful Habits
Adopt a comfortable position, relax, and lie still. Sink into drowsiness and, while in this state, repeat softly, over and over like an incantation: “I have completely freed myself from this habit; I am perfectly sober and calm.” Slowly and with deep feeling, repeat this phrase silently to yourself for five to ten minutes in the morning and evening. With each repetition, its emotional charge increases. If you suddenly feel like smoking or drinking, repeat this formula aloud several times. In this way, you will urge your subconscious to accept the idea, and only then will complete healing occur.
Solving Difficult Problems During Sleep
During a conversation, a young man asked me how he could find his deceased father's will. According to his sister, their father had told her that he had drawn up a document in which none of them had been left out. All the young man's attempts to find it came to nothing. So I instructed him, in the evening before going to sleep, to address the appropriate request to his subconscious. He formulated his request as follows: “I am now passing this request on to my subconscious. It knows where the will is. My subconscious will show it to me.” Then he concentrated his request into a single word: “Answer.”
The young man repeated this prayer again and again, like an incantation. For several nights in a row, he lulled himself to sleep, repeating the word “answer” over and over. A couple of nights later, he had a vivid, realistic dream. He saw the name and address of a particular bank. The young man went there and discovered a bank safe registered in his father's name. This was the answer to his prayer.
